Cape Town – More than 100 ANC councillors are reportedly expected to pay a visit to former president Jacob Zuma at his homestead in Nkandla on Thursday.
According to Times Live, dozens of party councillors gathered at the Umvoti Toll Plaza on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast as they mobilised to visit Zuma.
In a video posted on Twitter, eThekwini ward 28 councillor Ntando Khuzwayo said more than 100 ANC councillors from various regions and provinces were set to form part of the delegation to visit the former president.

“As councillors of eThekwini, we have taken a decision that we are going to visit the former president at his homestead in Nkandla.
“…The only reason we are visiting is… he came out of jail during the election season. So we were busy electioneering and we didn’t get time to go and visit him and see how he is doing,” said Khuzwayo.

But according to IOL, questions had been raised about the timing and intention of the councillors in visiting Zuma, as the visit was unsanctioned.
The report quoted an ANC member from the Renew, Rebuild and Unite (RRU) grouping, which was aligned to President Cyril Ramaphosa, as saying that it was clear that the planned visit was aimed at dividing the ANC.
“The fact that this was not sanctioned by the regional structure just tells you that this is a faction-driven mission,” he said.
The Witness said the councillors were going to Nkandla to present Zuma with a bull.
“It’s customary for us as Africans that when you visit a person in their own home you bring a gift. Particularly when you are visiting the male head of a household you bring a gift in the form of a cow or cattle,” IOL quoted Khuzwayo as saying, regarding the gift.
