Cape Town – Chief Justice Raymond Zondo has implemented strict rules for the first sitting of Parliament on Friday to ensure order during the election of the National Assembly Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and president.
He has amended the rules to grant himself the authority to remove any disruptive members and suspend proceedings to facilitate this, including using security services if necessary, EWN reported.
According to amendments made to the rules on Thursday, Zondo said that he would have the authority to order any member to leave the chamber if they did not comply.
No security personnel will be armed, and offensive or abusive behaviour will not be tolerated.
Zondo retains the power to address any unforeseen issues that arise.
Meanwhile, the Secretary to Parliament, Xolile George, has announced that the inauguration of the President-elect will be held in Pretoria next Wednesday.
