Cape Town — Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Naledi Chirwa made the party’s candidate list for the upcoming elections, albeit stone last in 200th position.
Chirwa made headlines earlier this month when she was made to publicly apologise for missing the Budget Speech to take care of her sick baby. The party was heavily criticised for the way it handled the situation, as many felt it was a humiliation towards Chirwa.
When the party submitted its candidate list to the IEC, there was no surprise to see her name on the list, but many were shocked to find her number 200 on the party list – the last position to fill.
🔴 NALEDI CHIRWA BOOTED OUT OF CANDIDATES TO PARLY🔴
In a recently released EFF Parliament list to IEC, Naledi Chirwa appears on number 200 in the EFF list. Making it completely impossible for her to return to Parliament.
She is number last. Even from a Gauteng list, she way… pic.twitter.com/JS19COsgiH

EWN reported that in 2019, fresh off the Fees Must Fall movement, Chirwa was number 30 on the EFF list and became one of the young and fresh voices to take up positions in Parliament. Fast forward to 2024, a series of own goals, including the tone of her recent public apology have seemingly closed the doors of Parliament for the young politician.
It is understood that Chirwa was placed much higher on provisional lists. With the EFF only guaranteed 44 seats in Parliament, it is highly unlikely that Chirwa will have a seat in Parliament.
According to The Citizen, Julius Malema was understandly the party’s number one, with Ntombovuyo Veronica Nkuna second and deputy president Floyd Shivambu third. Other prominent names include Goodrich Gardee at number seven and Dali Mpofu at number eleven. Political veteran Carl Niehuas, placed at number 27.
Naledi Chirwa moved from number 40 to 200 in EFF MP list.. the party must get over 40% in may elections for her to go back, Julius doesn’t play 😫 pic.twitter.com/efI3r8F1tY
