Cape Town – The motion of no confidence against President Cyril Ramaphosa was reportedly postponed on Wednesday after the African Transformation Movement (ATM) leader Vuyolwethu Zungula refused to move his motion.
According to eNCA, ATM asked parliament to halt proceedings pending judicial review of the matter.
The party said the matter of the secret ballot was still before the court.
“Therefore, we cannot proceed with the motion because the matter to vote by secret ballot it is still under judicial review,” EWN quoted Zungula as saying.
A News24 report said that Zungula asked for the motion’s postponement after the Western Cape High Court struck the ATM’s application to force National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula to have the motion voted on by secret ballot, from the urgent roll on Monday.

Mapisa-Nqakula said the matter was not sub judice and ruled that it be withdrawn if the ATM was not willing to move the motion.
The African Transformation Movement (ATM) submitted its motion of no confidence, targetting Ramaphosa’s leadership over the sealing of his bank statements related to his 2017 campaign for the ANC presidency, among other things.
Its motion of no-confidence application had been on the agenda of Parliament for the past two years, according to IOL.
It was rejected by the former National Assembly Speaker Thandi Modise.
However, the party recently resubmitted the application under the new Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula.
