Cape Town – Former Democratic Alliance (DA) leader, Mmusi Maimane, has confirmed that he will be back on the ballot paper in the 2024 elections.
This was confirmed in a media advisory released on Wednesday.
The leader of One South Africa Movement (OneSA) will launch a new political platform on Heritage day, September 24.
“This Heritage Day, Saturday 24 September 2022, Mmusi Maimane will launch a new political platform to appear on the ballot paper in 2024 as an umbrella body, to unearth and elect homegrown leadership in communities across the country,” the statement read.
This is the first time Maimane will compete in an election since he resigned from being the DA leader in 2019.
He will also be seeking out candidates from communities to join him in running for office in the upcoming 2024 elections.

In an interview on Kaya 959, Maimane said he outgrew his old environment.
“Sometimes you outgrow an environment. I have been on an incredible new journey, established an education centre, distributed over 1.1 million meals, working with 12 organisations in municipalities,” he said.
In an interview on the MacG podcast recently, Maimane explained the need for change in South Africa.
“Let me be frank. A child who grows up in Soweto today and a child who grows up in Stellenbosch, their prospects are exactly the same as they were pre-1994,” he said.
“We’ve got to make it such that if everybody works hard, it will get rewarded,” he added.
