Cape Town — The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party is not entertaining any idea of a coalition, as long as current African National Congress (ANC) leader, Cyril Ramaphosa, remains president.
The MK and ANC party have had their differences regarding the new party’s name, as well as former president, Jacob Zuma’s involvement with the party. Party spokesperson, Nhlamulo Ndhlea, has reiterated that the party wants Ramaphosa to step down immeidately, IOL reported.
This leaves the ANC – still the biggest party despite its reduced majority, having to choose between a coalition with the DA without the MK and EFF or a broad-based black pact without the DA.
Ndhlela said the party was confident of a resolution, if those within the ANC acted on what needed to be done to move the country forward. He also responded to Fikile Mbalula’s claim that Ramaphsoa would not leave the party.
“Fikile has ambitions of being the president of the ANC, what he says publicly and what he does behind the scenes is another thing. Those wanting Ramaphosa gone outweigh those who want him to remain. But if the ANC decides to go into any coalition involving the DA, that would be the end of the ANC. That’s a guarantee.” Ndhlela said.
