Cape Town – Former president Jacob Zuma has cautioned new members of uMkhonto Wesizwe, a recently formed political party, against joining for personal gain or positions.
Speaking at Heroes Acre in Imbali during celebrations for Moses Mabhida’s centenary on Saturday, Zuma explained his decision to support uMkhonto Wesizwe, citing his belief that the ANC has deviated from its original principles, The Witness reported.
He emphasised the seriousness of the new party’s objectives in achieving freedom for black people.

Zuma urged members to exercise discipline, avoid rushing into creating party structures, and cautioned against a focus on personal ambitions for positions.
“The MK party is not a joke, and it is not fake. It is serious. We want black people to be free the same way our leaders would have wanted it,” said Zuma.
He added: “We need to have discipline and respect others so that we can also be respected. We must not think that we are better than other people.”
