Cape Town – Former President Thabo Mbeki has expressed support for the African National Congress (ANC) summoning his successor, Jacob Zuma, to the party’s disciplinary committee.
Zuma faces disciplinary action for endorsing the MK Party, a move deemed in violation of ANC rules.
According to IOL, Mbeki emphasized the importance of adhering to party rules and constitution.
“I think it’s a correct procedure for the ANC to take, I think it’s important that it must stick to its own rules and constitution,” the report quoted Mbeki as saying.
Zuma’s suspension in January stemmed from his public announcement of support for the MK Party in the 2024 elections.
Mbeki labelled Zuma’s endorsement as an act of ill-discipline toward the ANC.
The ANC officially announced on Thursday that Zuma is slated to undergo the disciplinary hearing next Tuesday.
