Cape Town – Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula’s cryptic remarks on social media sparked speculation, with many interpreting them as directed towards Jacob Zuma after the Electoral Court’s ruling allowing Zuma’s participation in the upcoming elections.
Despite not mentioning Zuma by name, Mbalula’s comments hinted at future events on May 29, suggesting a distinction between a leader and an heir within the party.
“A father does not show gratitude to his son who brings back his whole livestock on the same day. However, he [the father] waits for the appropriate day to show him his value. 29 May is the day!
Inkwenkwe ebuya nemfuyo kaYise iphelele, uYise akayibuleli, kodwa ngomhla ofanelekileyo, uyayibonakalisela ixabiso layo!
29 May is the Day!!!Kwabiwa ilifa nge29. Kocaca umahluko kwiNkulu neNdlalifa. Umbutho will have to decide ukuba uyiNkulu okanye uyindlalifa.

“Inheritance will be shared on the 29th. The difference between a leader and an heir will be clear. The party will have to decide whether it is the leader or the heir.
“The cow destroys the house. Do not blame the roofer, when the builder built a low wall,” Mbalula said on X.
Social media users speculated on the implications of Mbalula’s words, with some interpreting them as a prediction of the ANC’s performance in the elections.
“You are shaken by today’s judgment,” wrote @Xolani_Shomase.

The Electoral Court’s on Tuesday allowed Zuma to run in May’s general elections, overturning a decision by electoral authorities barring him over a previous conviction.
The court ruled in favour of Zuma, 81, who is fronting the MK, a new opposition party that has become a dark horse in the election race.
“The decision of the Electoral Commission… is set aside,” the court wrote in its ruling.
It did not provide an explanation of how the verdict was reached.
