Cape Town — ANC secretary-general, Fikile Mbalula’s comments about former President, Jacob Zuma’s Nkandla fire pool saga, have South Africa up in arms and questioning how the ANC will save it’s face.
Earlier this week, the secretary-general openly admitted that the ANC had lied for many years to keep the Nkandla fire pool quiet, especially after the Constitutional Court deemed Zuma to be unfit for office.
This led to many South Africans, all across social media, talking about the scandal and questioned whether the ANC was the party to lead South Africa, IOL reported.
It also led to speculation that the ANC may be protecting current president, Cyril Ramaphosa, and his Phala Phala farm scandal too. The incident has led to the ANC’s 112th anniversary celebrations, set for this weekend, being drowned out and placed under a shadow of doubt.

Mbalula’s received criticism from party members, such as Natioanl Chairperson Gwede Mantashe and ANCVL leader, Snuki Zikalala. Social media has been buzzing since Mbalula’s comments, with some feeling his efforts to call out Zuma for leaving the ANC, will actually be the downfall of the ANC ahead of the 2024 general elections.
If the ANC loses the election in 2024 part of that blame goes to Fikile Mbalula. pic.twitter.com/G3K4YLFSUw

So Fikile Mbalula you agree you lied but you say you did not lie? 🤷♂️ https://t.co/M58hh0qZqh

We are appalled by Mbalula’s admission that he lied about the fire pool at Nkandla. He betrayed the public trust and mocked the parliament. He should resign and apologise. #FireMbalula #FirePoolLies
