Cape Town — ANC national chairperson, Gwede Mantashe, believes former president, Jacob Zuma, should face disciplinary charges, but the preparations for the upcoming elections have made that difficult.
Mantashe appeared on the Clement Manyathela Show on Radio 702 where he was honest about the current Zuma situation involving him and his decision to de-campaign the ANC and instead choose to vote for the new uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party.
Mantashe said Zuma knows he’s broken ties with the ANC, despite that fact that he (Zuma) said he still remains a member of the ANC. He has been crisscrossing parts of the country, mobilising against the governing party as the public face of MK.
Gwede Mantashe tells me on #TheCMShow the ANC WILL take action against Jacob Zuma through a DC, but that will only be after the elections. “We don’t want to be distracted in an election year”.

Mantashe said it was best to document Zuma’s public commentary about the ANC so that when the time comes, the party can formally put it to him when they confirm the end of his membership in the party, EWN reported.
“He is speaking the language of an ANC of Ramaphosa, meaning when he was president, we were basically his slaves, we were working for him, an ANC of Jacob Zuma. My own view is that lessons were given in the ANC, including by him, is that nobody is bigger than the ANC in the ANC,” Mantashe said.
Mantashe also touched on a number of topics involving the current South African landscape, including the growth of coal mining, the announcement of the cadastral system, the mining license application backlog will be cleared by the end of 2024.
Mantashe also touched on Pravin Gordhan must take accountability for the executives who have left SOE’s under his department, saying he must take responsibility for the instability.
