Cape Town – Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has vowed to raid President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala farm if the EFF gains power.
Speaking to thousands of supporters in Polokwane over the weekend, Malema promised to address all criminals, including corrupt politicians.
According to EWN, he referenced Ramaphosa’s recent interview where the president mentioned repaying money linked to the Phala Phala scandal, claiming it as proof of corruption.
“We said to you the president has dollars in a mattress and in the sofas, you said we are lying. The president said himself four days ago. I am going to pay back those dollars to the buyer. You can see we caught a thief red-handed. If we never spoke of him having those dollars, he wouldn’t have paid back the money,” the report quoted Malema as saying.
News24 reported last week that Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala farm was “processing” Sudanese businessman Hazim Mustafa’s claim for a refund for buffalo.
Mustafa allegedly paid $580,000 in cash for buffalo on December 25, 2019, handing the money to an employee at Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala farm.
In his responses to the Office of the Public Protector, which investigated complaints that the president violated the Executive Members Ethics Act by failing to declare his business interests, Ramaphosa identified Mustafa as the person who paid the approximately R8 million in cash, the report said.
Meanwhile, Malema also clarified the EFF’s stance on immigration, blaming right-wing and liberal groups for spreading misinformation.
He emphasised that under EFF rule, everyone in South Africa would be properly documented.
“There will not be illegal immigration in South Africa, there won’t be a person without documents, everybody in SA will be documented, whether they came here for whatever reason, we are going to be an Africa-friendly government,” said Malema.
