Cape Town – Leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Julius Malema, has reportedly instructed his party’s North West caucus to submit a motion of no confidence against Premier Bushy Maape.
Malema argues that Maape, who underwent orthopaedic surgery in June and was expected to return to work on Monday, has been on sick leave for an extended period, and therefore, should step down from his position.
Despite expressing well wishes for Maape’s recovery, Malema contended that the premier was not fit and proper for public office due to his prolonged absence, EWN reported.

“Let the old man go and stay at home and leave the healthy people. That is why when you assume public office, they say you must be fit and proper. Bushy is not fit and proper, and that is why he is not qualified to occupy a public office,” the report quoted Malema as saying.
Sunday World reported in August that Maape’s extended sick leave coincided with critical service delivery challenges in the North West province, including issues with water and sanitation.
His absence had sparked calls for accountability and some, including the Democratic Alliance (DA), were considering a motion of no confidence if Maape didn’t return promptly, the report said.
The ANC Youth League in North West had also called for Maape’s retirement, emphasising the strategic importance of the premier’s role in executing government policies, particularly related to service delivery, said the report.
