Malema praises EFF Student Command at University of Pretoria

Cape Town — Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader, Julius Malema, led a public lecture at the University of Pretoria (UP) where he praised the EFF’s Student Command Council.

Among the topics of his lecture, Malema discussed the bravery of the Students Command for their bravery and resolve in fighting racism at the institution and within South Africa. While he was proud of the party’s student wing for fighting inequality, he lambasted the university for its failure to accommodate other African languages.

“Comrades, I stand here today at the heart of racism, where you as students of this University have decided to wage the struggle to destroy white supremacy and be the necessary irritation against white Afrikaaner arrogance,” he said.

He also claimed the university should be renamed from the University of Pretoria to the University of Tshwane, the same way that the city changed names.

“Fighters, we must make sure that at the right time, we must rename this University… WHO IS PRETORIA? WHY SHOULD WE BE CALLED PRETORIA? THIS UNIVERSITY CANNOT BE UNIVERSITY OF PRETORIA. You are found in Tshwane. You can only be University of Tshwane,” he added.

According to SABC News, EFF Student Command President, Shile Lonzi said the EFF Student Command recognised that UP is the “headquarters of racism” and was a very anti-EFF campus.

“So we said, there are no go areas for the EFF in South Africa. So we said, by fire, by force, we’re going to bring our president to come and speak to his students, because the message of economic freedom in our lifetime resonates with all young people in South Africa, across class, across race, across gender,” he said.
