Cape Town – Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has responded to calls for the African National Congress (ANC) to end its working relationship with his party, saying that such demands stem from frustration, as the EFF has outperformed the ANC in various municipalities.
The ANC has been contemplating ending its coalition agreement with the EFF, SABC reported.
The ANC and EFF had previously formed cooperative arrangements in several municipalities, including significant metropolitan areas in Gauteng.
They hold a majority in Johannesburg, where they have appointed MMCs, but have agreed to a minority mayor.
However, during a presentation to the ANC’s National Executive Committee earlier this month, the head of political education, David Makhura, suggested that the party should reevaluate its coalition partnership with the EFF, citing it as potentially more detrimental than beneficial, the report said.
According to EWN, Malema said that his party is not forcing anyone to work with them and that their only “crime” is outshining the ANC in delivering services to the people.
“We’ve not done anything wrong. The ANC can’t accept the idea that the EFF, where it’s involved, it services the people and is performing and is outshining the ANC. That is the only crime we committed!,” the report quoted Malema as saying.
