Cape Town – US President Donald Trump has ignited a firestorm with comments posted on his Truth Social platform on Friday, accusing the South African government of orchestrating a campaign of land confiscation and “genocide” against white farmers.
In the post, Trump questioned the United States’ participation in the upcoming G20 Summit, scheduled to be hosted in South Africa later this year.
“How could we be expected to go to South Africa for the very important G20 Meeting when Land Confiscation and Genocide is the primary topic of conversation? They are taking the land of white Farmers, and then killing them and their families. The Media refuses to report on this. The United States has held back all contributions to South Africa. Is this where we want to be for the G20? I don’t think so!,” he wrote.

Trump offered no evidence for his claims, which echo earlier controversies over South Africa’s land reform policies — a process that has seen the government push for the redistribution of land to address apartheid-era dispossession.
South African officials have repeatedly denied any state-sanctioned campaign of violence or ethnic targeting in the process.
The G20 Summit, which brings together the world’s major economies, is expected to focus on global economic recovery, climate change, and geopolitical stability. Whether Trump’s remarks will influence official US participation remains unclear.
