Cape Town — South Africans continue to pay tribute to former Finance Minister and South African Reserve Bank (SARB) governor, Tito Mboweni, who passed away this past weekend aged 65.
Mboweni passed away after a short illness on Saturday evening and in the aftermath of his death, an old tweet of his from 2018 has resurfaced. In the tweet, Mboweni discussed a conversation he had with his son, who had asked him what he wanted to do in life, and he explained there was nothing more for him to do except to be given a decent burial when he dies.
“My son saw my earlier tweet & he asked ‘What else do you want to do?’ ‘Nothing, I have done everything a reasonable human being would have wanted to achieve in life,’ I replied.
“‘Just give me a decent burial when my time comes to go’”. ‘No, he said. You are going nowhere!’ That’s nice from him!” Mboweni said.

Ever felt pain and loss when a stranger passes away, that is how I feel with Tito Mboweni. He positively impacted people, even as we teased him for traumatising the chicken with garlic. He took the banter like an elder he was. Condolences to his family for the loss🕊️ 🕊️
