Bamako – Mali’s military-appointed government on Monday said that Prime Minister Choguel Kokalla Maiga, a civilian named to the job in June 2021, had returned to the position after suffering a stroke earlier this year.
“Government chief Prime Minister Choguel Kokalla Maiga returned to duties today after a four-month break for medical reasons,” the government said on Facebook.
Mali underwent a military coup in August 2020, followed by a second takeover in May 2021.

The landlocked Sahel state is in the throes of a decade-long jihadist campaign that has left thousands of dead and forced hundreds of thousands from their homes.
Maiga had been provisionally replaced since August by an army officer, Colonel Abdoulaye Maiga.
His impending return had been signalled late on Sunday by a decree signed by junta leader Colonel Assimi Goita that ended Col. Maiga’s interim stay.
