Cape Town — Former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Limpopo chairman, Jossey Buthane has ditched the red berets in favour of a return to the African National Congress (ANC).
Buthane was a staunch supporter of Julius Malema and confirmed his exit from the party when he appeared alongside other prominent ANC members during the Solomon Mahlangu Memorial Lecture.
“Jossey Buthane, former Limpopo Provincial leader of the EFF rejoined the ANC, together with 190 former EFF members. The announcement and official welcome were made today by ANC Provincial Secretary Comrade Reuben Madadzhe during the Solomon Mahlangu Memorial Lecture in Polokwane.” ANC Limpopo said on X.

According to EWN, Buthane said he would not be patronised or endure personal attacks during times of dispute in the ANC, and touched on what it meant for him to rejoin the ANC.
“At least there [the ANC], when you have differences, you still feel safe in an organisation, you don’t feel patronised, you don’t feel attacked in your personal space. You can still differ in the ANC and still be a member in good standing, still enjoy rights and benefits in the organisation.” he said.
Buthane was among nearly 200 members to leave the EFF and join the ANC as the party attempts to solidify it’s efforts to secure votes in Limpopo.
As reported by IOL, Buthane launched a tirade on social media, allegedly aimed at Malema, asking him to stop talking “nonsense” and insulting him in public. He threatened Malema by saying he had files on Malema and would spill the beans on him if he was continually disrespected.
“That nonsense of going around insulting and talking nonsense about us must come to an end. We are not scared and we were never scared of you, we just respected you and your office and mostly took you as a brother.” Buthane said.
Tensions between the two friends began flaring up following the party’s poor showing during the 2021 local government elections, forcing Malema and his executive to disband the Limpopo provincial command team (PCT), led by Buthane.
