Cape Town – Impeached former Western Cape Judge president, John Hlophe, has resigned from the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), as confirmed by MK Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela.
The resignation follows a court case initiated by the DA, Freedom Under Law, and Corruption Watch, challenging the JSC’s interviews for judicial appointments.

The MK Party also sought to block these interviews.
The JSC, which aims to fill 26 judicial vacancies, argued that filling these posts is critical due to a shortage of judges, especially in the Supreme Court of Appeal.
Hlophe is now serving as the MK Party’s deputy president and parliamentary leader.
The DA said Hlophe’s resignation from the JSC was “a victory for judiciary independence”.
