Cape Town – The City of Johannesburg is set to hold a special council meeting on Friday to elect a new mayor following the resignation of Kabelo Gwamanda from the Al Jama-ah party.
This comes amid concerns about the city’s deteriorating condition.
Dada Morero, the current Member of the Mayoral Committee on Finance, is the leading candidate, with the African National Congress (ANC) backing him for the position.
The Johannesburg council is set to elect a new mayor after Kabelo Gwamanda’s resignation on Tuesday. The ANC’s Dada Morero is tipped to take over the reins. However, the leader of the DA Joburg Caucus, Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjuku argues for fresh elections.

The ANC in Johannesburg said that Gwamanda’s resignation resulted from extensive discussions within ANC structures and the 13 political parties involved in the local unity government.
