Leitch, who joined the mayoral committee in January 2022 as a deployee of the Patriotic Alliance (PA), also serves as the party’s treasurer-general.
According to TimesLIVE, PA deputy president Kenny Kunene confirmed that Leitch’s resignation was prompted by the need for her to focus on her party role full-time due to its rapid growth and upcoming plans.
“With the party growing, she has to occupy her role full time. With our plans, which will be unveiled soon, we felt that she needs to work for the party,” the report quoted Kunene as saying.
Leitch’s resignation takes effect immediately, necessitating a search for her replacement within the local unity coalition comprising ANC, EFF, PA, and minority party partners.
