Cape Town – Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero has fired MMC of Community Development Kabelo Gwamanda following his recent arrest over alleged fraud.
Gwamanda, a former mayor, is accused of running a funeral policy scam in Soweto over a decade ago.
According to Times Live, the mayor said that Gwamanda’s immediate dismissal was intended to keep city services running smoothly and meet residents’ needs.
“The decision to discharge Gwamanda is effective immediately and aims to ensure that the city’s service delivery remains uninterrupted and continues to meet the needs of its residents,” the report wuoted Morero as saying.
Patriotic Alliance councillor Tebogo Nkonkou will replace him.
Gwamanda had initially been placed on special leave last month after his arrest amid fraud and corruption charges
