Cape Town — ActionSA is the most recent party to experience internal turmoil after 22 leaders in the party’s North West Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) tendered their resignation.
The 22 members resigned en masse in protest after party leader, Herman Mashaba, stuck with Kwena Mangope as the patty’s North West chair, the son of Lucas Mangope.
The 22 members resigned immediately as they disagreed with Mangope’s leadership style, The Citizen reported.
“We are doing so as individuals and as a collective. Moreover, we will also be encouraging ordinary members who fall under the banner of Save North West Campaign to do the same,” they said.
The members said the circumstances behind their resignation were due to the party’s intention to purge and threaten members with letters to invoke certain clauses of the party’s interim constitution to terminate their membership. The group had complained about Mangope and was allegedly threatened with disciplinary action by the party’s senate.

Meanwhile, in Mpumalanga, ActionSA’s Provincial campaigns manager and national treasurer, Kuhle Maseko, resigned after a fallout with National Youth Forum leader, Hluphi Gafane, IOL reported.
Maseko took issue with Gafane over her running of the Youth Forum and accused the leader of running a “little spaza shop”. He said he had resigned due to a few individuals who were determined to overthrow him from leadership roles.
“The plan is to portray me as a rogue element within the party, seeking to punish me for bringing to light the very real issues we face – issues that are evident in the wave of resignations that have weakened our structures across the country,” he said,
He said the party has been struggling to campaign effectively due to a lack of resources and in the absence of party support, he has funded student campaigns in KZN at UKZN and DUT, amounting to nearly R25 000 from his pocket.
