Cape Town – Mavuso Msimang, a prominent member of the African National Congress (ANC), has reportedly explained the reasons behind his unexpected decision to retract his resignation from the ruling party.
Last week, Msimang attracted attention by publicly declaring his departure from the ANC after a six-decade membership.
Despite being urged by ANC veterans to reconsider, Msimang, who serves as the deputy president of the ANC Veterans League, cited concerns such as South Africa’s stagnant economy and corruption as contributing factors to his initial resignation.

Subsequently, there ensued a public exchange of criticisms between Msimang and Fikile Mbalula, the ANC secretary-general, regarding the struggle stalwart’s critiques of the ruling party.
However, after intervention from the ANC Veterans League, Msimang withdrew his resignation but, according to Sunday Times. he maintained his criticism, outlining deep concerns about the ANC’s failure to address corruption within its ranks.
“My resignation from the ANC was never simply a matter of having changed my mind about the party’s policies because another contender for power had persuaded me that they had better policies.
“It doesn’t require sophisticated political analysis to predict what will happen to the ANC’s electoral chances if they fail to exclude people tainted with corruption.
“It is my hope that my resignation did have the effect of shocking the ANC leadership into doing what ought to have been glaringly obvious: do not allow anyone tainted with corruption to accept nomination as a public representative,” the struggle stalwart continued he said in an op-ed published by the publication.
