Cape Town— The Inkatha Freedom Party’s (IFP) Thami Ntuli has been elected as the Kwa-Zulu Natal’s (KZN) Premier for the seventh administration.
Ntuli was elected by an IFP, African National Congress (ANC), Democratic Alliance (DA) and National Freedom Plus (NFP) coalition. He edged out the uMkhonto weSizwe’s (MK) Phathisiswe Chiliza, who was supported by the EFF, by 41 votes to 39, to lead the government in the province.
Ntuli thanked voters for the opportunity to lead them and said his government has a mammoth task ahead of them, assuring the people that their challenges would be his priority, TimesLIVE reported.
“What is important are the priorities of the people of KwaZulu-Natal, issues of service delivery. We take forward the mandate of the electorate, of people who want to deliver. Even that 45% will understand the significance of this government,” he said.

The Citizen wrote that Ntuli emphasised the need for unity and cooperation in order to grow KZN. He said said he would get his chance to prove himself and was not concerned that he only received 55% of the vote.
“I know that as we are seated here celebrating the election of the office bearers, there are women and men who are seated at home who do not have something to put in their stomach for the day and that’s a task we are faced with.” he said.
