Cape Town – Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) founder Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi is reportedly not planning to retire anytime soon.
This comes as the 93-year-old’s family confirmed in a statement on Wednesday that he had been admitted to hospital for a medical examination after experiencing high blood pressure on Monday night.
“On Tuesday afternoon, his [Buthelezi] doctors felt it wise for him to be admitted to hospital for all the necessary checks, as this would also allow him to get some much-needed rest. As there is no further information to convey, the family requests that enquiries please cease at this point. Should there be anything further to report once Prince Buthelezi returns home, we will issue another statement,” the family said.

Speaking to eNCA, family spokesperson, Bhekuyise Buthelezi said that the IFP founder showed no sign nor desire of retiring.
“The issue has been raised in the media and in the country so many times before, as you know. He himself indicated that we as a family would be happy to spend more time with him at home and to be able to do other things that people do at home with him. But each time he has been asked by South Africans at large to continue to serve them,” Bhekuyisa said.
Buthelezi, who was last seen in public on Saturday at the Isandlwana battle commemoration, remains a member of Parliament and the Zulu Prime Minister.
