Cape Town – As thousands of South Africans abroad voted on Saturday, the Democratic Alliance (DA) highlighted the high voter turnout as a sign of the 2024 elections’ importance.
Over 70 000 South Africans are registered to vote overseas this year.
London, with more than 24,000 registered voters, remains open on Sunday.
According to EWN, DA Global Chairperson Ludre Stevens expressed gratitude to expatriates for participating.
“In Canberra, Australia, one of the first stations to open, hundreds of South Africans stood patiently to make their mark. Europe, Africa, and the Middle East followed a few hours later where queues have gathered around city blocks in cities like London and The Hague, the reort quoted Stevens as saying.
South Africa is one of the few countries that allows expats to vote, with further voting stations in London, UK, The Hague in the Netherlands, Canberra in Australia and Dubai in the UAE, SABC News reported.
