Cape Town – One SA Movement leader Mmusi Maimane has criticsed Jacob Zuma, saying that he does not view the former president as his moral compass.
The former Democratic Alliance (DA) leader said this, as he weighed in following the resignation of a prominent political figure, Mbali Ntuli from the DA and the KwaZulu-Natal legislature this week.
“iANC ayisafani neDA ayisafani,” Maimane tweeted in Zulu. (Loosely translated: ANC is no longer the same and DA is no longer the same).

One social media user responded to Maimane’s post and suggested that Zuma had warned him before about being used by the DA but he didn’t listen.
“Zuma told you that you are being used by whites and you didn’t listen,” wrote @advovolicious.
Maimane immediately clapped back and wrote:
“The man who used taxpayers’ money to build a mansion for himself is not my moral compass.”

According to Times Live, Maimane’s comment was in reference to Zuma’s controversial Nkandla homestead, which sparked controversy for a decade and was estimated to have cost more than R240 million.
Another Twitter user, @SizweLo told Maimane not to deflect from the question and asked him whether he believed he was not used by whites.
“You’re deflecting. Were you or were you not used by white people to attract Black voters to the Democratic Alliance and when that experiment failed they chucked you out? (Hint: the correct answer is YES),” @SizweLo wrote.
You think you know politics Sizwe because you post threads on twitter.
If you started a party you would not even last three weeks.I have fully explained why I joined and left the DA. Don’t call yourself a polymath when you can’t even do a simple google search.

Times Lives also quoted Maimane as saying that the ANC and DA had failed to represent South Africans and, therefore, there was need for a change of leadership in the 2024 general elections.
We are watching the last season of Game of Thrones in those two parties.

“We need new vehicles to get to the change this country deserves. One party is corrupt and incapable. The other is not cognizant of the value of building an equitable and diverse SA. One SA,” the report quoted him as saying.
Maimane said that the DA had failed to build a party that encapsulated the vision of all South Africans and one that recognised the injustices against black people, EWN reported.
“This political party has no vision for that, how do you elect black public representatives to represent South Africans within that formation?,” the report quoted him as saying.
