Cape Town — With President Cyril Ramaphosa set to announce his cabinet, the political parties in the Government of National Unity (GNU) are vying for the roles in the cabinet.
It is reported that Ramaphosa will make the announcements either on Sunday or early in next week. While he is in no rush to make the announcement, the ANC did not want make to leave a power vacuum and capital markets needed direction, Daily Maverick reported.
The ANC, DA and PA are jostling for key positions within the cabinet. Paul Mashatile is likely to remain as Deputy President, while Gwede Mantashe, Kgotsientsho Ramokgopa, and Enoch Godongwana, are likely to keep their respective roles.
The DA has eyed control of economic enabler departments to achieve growth and create jobs as soon as possible, according to officials. It also wants the position of minister in the Presidency for party leader John Steenhuisen to work with the Operation Vulindlela team, which is achieving solid reform in energy and logistics.
Meanwhile, the PA has set its sights on the Police and Home Affairs minister roles respectively.

Ramaphosa said the election results emphasised the people’s disappointment at government’s performances and members of the pubic believe the GNU will being change in the right direction, SABC News reported.
Political analyst, Enoch Maponya, said markets have responded positively to the swearing-in of the Members of Parliament (MPs) and it signals a better future for the country as the rand has stabilised. He said the DA accepted it will have 30% of the posts, the ANC will hold 60%, while the other parties will have 10% of the posts.
The GNU has grown by two parties in the past 48 hours as the FF+ and the UDM have both joined the GNU. This now brings the total number of GNU parties to eight, along with the ANC, DA, PA, PAC and Good Party.
More parties means more names who could enter ministerial positions and it will be down to Ramaphosa to make the decision over who will work alongside him in the new cabinet.
