Cape Town — The Good Party has called for a swift release of the findings from the May 2024 George building collapse investigation that claimed the lives of more than 30 people.
In a statement, the party called for the investigation to be released and said it was important to provide closure to the victims’ families and the greater George community.
“Over the weekend, the Minister of Human Settlements, Thembi Simelane confirmed that according to the preliminary report by the National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC) several procedures were not followed,” Good Party’s George councillor Chantelle Kyd said.
Simelane pledged to implement all recommendations but did not disclose the release date for the findings.
Western Capep Premier Alan Winde handed over a separate independent structural report to the Western Cape Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile and now the George community awaits the outcome of the investigations and expects prompt action base don the findings.
” As GOOD we believe the Mayor needs to table both reports before the council. The building collapse was the biggest man-made tragedy to impact our municipality,” Kyd said.
“The people of George deserve transparency, accountability, and decisive action,” she concluded.
