Cape Town – Former EFF secretary-general Godrich Gardee sparked debate on social media by saying that EFF members considering leaving the party should inform the organisation if they’re being recruited by another party.
“We, as staff or members and leaders of EFF South Africa who do not intend to defect, are obliged to give the organisation a heads up that we are being recruited, who amongst us is persuading you to defect. Silence is complicity. You knew and kept quiet. You too may as well go!,” Gardee wrote on X.

This follows the resignation of Floyd Shivambu, who left the EFF to join Jacob Zuma’s MK party.
Julius Malema expressed deep pain over Shivambu’s departure, comparing it to the loss of his mother.
“When he (Shivambu) sent me a letter yesterday, I felt the same pain when I received the news of the passing away of my mother. Because Floyd to me is not just a comrade – is a bother and will remain a brother even when he pursues his political career differently.

“We formed this organisation together and I’ve told him resigning from the EFF is equal to resigning from himself,” said Malema.
He added: “This is a testing moment. An organsiation that has lived beyond 10 years has been through a testing moment.”
Malema, however, affirmed his loyalty to the EFF, saying he would remain committed even if left alone.
Despite the EFF’s policy against returning members, Malema said Shivambu could come back if he wished.
