Cape Town – Presidential candidate and former health minister, Dr Zweli Mkhiwe, believes he has what it takes to lead not just the African National Congress (ANC) but South Africa as a whole.
According to sources in the ANC, Mkhize reportedly stood a good chance against Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma who was also contesting for the position in the upcoming ANC elective conference, reported IOL.
The report said 95% of ANC branches in KZN had nominated Mkhize and his endorsement by the ANC youth demonstrated that his support goes beyond the province by national.
During an interview on kaya959′s Kaya Drive show with Sizwe Dhlomo, Mkhize shared his future plans for the ANC and the nation.
He also talked about his interest to work with the youth.
“The younger generation have a way of disrupting the old ways and making their point that gets attention. One other factor with the young generation infusing the ANC is that there is no loyalty attached and that is what is missing within the ANC,” he said.

Mkhize didn’t shy away from controversy and opened up about the Digital Vibe scandal where he was accused of benefitting from the R150 million contract but was cleared by parliament’s ethics committee.
On his son allegedly receiving R460 00o from Digital Vibes, he said the committee found that because his son was an adult, he could not be held liable for any of his alleged involvement in the scandal.
Despite being cleared of the scandal, the former health minister said he was prepared to resign from office in order to deal with the matter without it affecting his work.
On his role as ANC Treasury General, Mkhize denied that he required 10% of whatever deal was coming to the ANC, calling them “all lies”.
“Firstly, it’s all lies. Secondly, I will say bring me the proof of these solicitous transactions because I reject this 10% allegation with the contempt it deserves,” Mkhize said.
