Cape Town – Mmakgabo Lawrence Mapoulo, a veteran Limpopo politician, has joined the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), the EFF said on Tuesday.
According to Times Live, prior to joining the EFF, Mapoulo held various positions in the African National Congress (ANC).
He was the mayor of Polokwane, the mayor of the Capricorn District Municipality, the regional chairperson of the ANC in Limpopo, and the chairperson of the Cuito Cuanavale ANC branch in Limpopo, the report said.
Mapoulo was recalled in June 2014, about a year after the EFF was formed amid reports of concerns that his relationship with Malema posed a threat to the ANC.
“The EFF Limpopo is elated to welcome into its ranks the membership of Fighter Mmakgabo Lawrence Mapoulo. Fighter Lawrence Mapoulo is one of the most decorated political leaders and activists in the Limpopo province.

“He joins the ranks of the EFF during a crucial time in our organisational development in the province. He comes when the central focus is the revival of our structures and aggressive membership recruitment towards the national 1 million membership mark. His experiment could therefore not arrive at a more opportune time,” said the EFF in a statement.
