Cape Town — The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) will be in Kwa-Zulu Natal (KZN) this weekend to investigate reasons why the party lost so many votes in the province during the elections.
The party’s secretary general, Marshall Dlamini, briefed the media on the party’s plans this coming weekend as it hopes to uncover the key reasons why it lost so many votes. Dlamini said the party’s Central Command Team (CCT) estimated the party lost up to 300 000 votes, he said in an interview.
“We lost votes, we lost close to 300 000 votes. We lost seats. Those seats and votes hurt the organisation so it’s important for leadership to find solutions,” he said.
Dlamini said the party would listen to all branches of the party, from the bottom up and the party will visit all 11 regions in the province and will listen to each branch and structure to understand what went wrong.
“They were on the ground in the campaign, they were in the villages and townships and they are within communities, and they might have said why they did not choose the EFF this time around,” he continued.
He said once they got a report, the CCT could discuss the way forward for the party, not just in KZN, but throughout the whole country. The leadership urged them to go back to KZN as the party is “not complete without KZN”.
“This is our province. We want to know what we did wrong, maybe within the communities, or politically, or how we structured ourselves, but we will answer that will our branches,” he said.
Dlamini also said the issue involving Shivambu’s resignation has been put to bed and that no other members have left the party.
“All the members are here, the CCT team is here with 100% attendance, the regions and provinces are intact and that’s why we are coming here to listen to our structures,”
He said it was important to listen to what the branches in KZN had to say so that the party could start to rebuild.
