Cape Town – The EFF is demanding the resignation of IEC Commissioner Nomsa Masuku following her arrest for alleged corruption and fraud involving R1.2 million.
The charges stem from a decade-long investigation into her tenure as a trustee of Standard Bank’s Adopt a School Trust, where she allegedly used the trust to provide bursaries to family and friends between 2006 and 2013.
EFF spokesperson Leigh-Ann Mathys said in a statement that Masuku should step down to address the allegations without further damaging the IEC’s reputation.

“If Masuku was truly committed to the Constitution and the principles of democracy she professes to uphold as a commissioner, she would step down. This resignation would allow her to address these serious allegations personally, without further tarnishing the reputation of the IEC,” Mathys said.
Masuku was released on R20 000 bail after appearing in the Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Crimes Court.
