Cape Town – After intense negotiations, the Democratic Alliance (DA) must decide whether to join the African National Congress (ANC)’s Government of National Unity (GNU) after President Cyril Ramaphosa offered them six ministries, reort said on Thursday.

The DA had initially demanded 12 Cabinet posts, the removal of directors general in those ministries, and the deputy president position.

According to EWN, following three days of disputes, the ANC’s final offer includes six ministries and seven deputies for the DA, three ministries for the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), and one each for the Patriotic Alliance (PA) and Good Party.

Despite a controversial letter demanding DG changes, which was later deemed erroneous, Ramaphosa is set to brief ANC alliance partners before finalising his executive team, the report said.

Despite a reported deal, ANC deputy secretary-general Nomvula Mokonyane criticised the Democratic Alliance (DA) on Tuesday, stating that “no self-respecting organization” could agree to the demands the DA was making in the Government of National Unity (GNU).

“It is like they are imposing what they believe is good for them. They must actually appreciate that we all serve at the behest of the president in line with the Constitution. Secondly, there are parties that also have to be accommodated in line with rule 23 of the Statement of Intent,” Mokonyane said during an interview with Newzrook Afrika.
