Cape Town — The Democratic Alliancce (DA) and the Good Party, as well as the South African Jewish Board of Deputies (SAJBD) have responded to the ICJ’s ruling in favour of South Africa.
On Friday, the ICJ ruled that South Africa brought sufficient evidence to the court thart ordered Israel to allow humanitarian aid into the Palestinian territory, and to take as many preventative measures as they can to prevent the killings of more innocent people, with Naledi Pandor labelling it a “decisive victory”.
In response, the DA noted the ICJ’s ruling intended to minimise civilian deaths, and further appealed to the ICJ to move swiftly in determining whether or not the substantive arguments brought by South Africa in respect of the accusation of genocide had merit in international law, EWN reported.
“The DA remains resolutely committed to a viable and sustainable two-state solution based on United Nations Security Council resolutions 242 and 338. Our vision is for a sovereign Palestine, co-existing in peace next to a secure Israel,” party MP, Emma Powell, said.

The Good Party secretary general, Brett Harron, said, after decades of international law violations, land occupation and the implementation of Aprtheid policies to subdue Palestinian justice and equality, it is the first ever finding of fault by the state of Israel.
The SAJBD released a statement welcoming the ICJ’s recognition of Israel to defend itself and it’s citizens by denying a ceasefire. They added that the court was never asked to merit the the charges of genocide, only to provide interim measures.
“The court’s call for the hostages to be freed is a fundamental requirement for the end of the conflict. It is regrettable that the SA Government did not put pressure on Hamas to release the hostages from the outset, which would have averted such terrible loss of life.”
They added their disappointment that the government did playing a more constructive role in engaging both sides, and will continue to mourn the tragic loss of life on both sides and support the continued facilitation of humanitarian assistance to alleviate the suffering of innocents caught up in Hamas’s war.
