Cape Town — The Democratic Alliance (DA) has filed papers for a contempt of court application against the African National Congress (ANC) over the ongoing cadre deployment saga.
The DA and ANC continue to go back and forth with one another after the opposition party accused the ruling party of withholding its cadre deployment records. In a party statement, the DA said it intended to launch a contempt of court against the ANC to obtain copies of the emails and WhatsApps after the DA felt the ANC did not include Ramaphosa’s own emails and WhatsApps in the material in the initial documents.

The issue goes back as far as January 2013 when president Cyril Ramaphosa was Chair of the National Deployment Committee, SABC News reported.
The ANC recently handed over its cadre deployment documents to the DA after a failed appeal against the High Court’s judgement back in February 2023. The Gauteng High Court’s judgement ordered the the full records be handed over within five days, following a successful Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) application by the DA’s Leon Schreiber.
The DA wants to declare that the ANC is in contempt of the High Court order. A contempt of court application is successful if the other party knows of the court order and did not perform according to the order, while also failing to explain the non-performance
