Cape Town — The Democratic Alliance (DA) said it is determined to remain in control of the Western Cape, with the party expected to face its strongest opposition yet.
The DA has been in charge of the Western Cape since it took over from the ANC in 2009 and has run largely unopposed since then. While smaller political parties have made their intentions clear to run in the Western Cape, the DA are confident it will not lose power, with party leader John Steenhuisen is adamant his party would come tops come 29 May elections, The Citizen reported.
“All these parties are clearly taking a chance; I don’t know what they are basing these on because it can’t be any rational or reasonable polling or something like that? They are trying to gain relevance out of this,” he said.
“People know the reason that Western Cape is the best run province in the country is because they voted for the DA.”
Among the parties gunning for Western Cape supremacy includes the National Coloured Congress (NCC), the Patriotic Alliance (PA) and the People’s Movement for Change (PMC), who are all working on helping the coloured communities.

“The DA know they have done nothing for the majority of the people of the Western Cape, they only serve a tiny minority,” PA president Gayton McKenzie said.
According to IOL, the leader of the NCC, Fadiel Adams, said his party is determined to ending the DA’s reign in the Western Cape. Adams said his party is committed to ending the genocide on the Cape Flats.
“As the NCC we are committed to ending the genocide on the Cape Flats. The marginalisation of the Coloured child. We are committed to ending white supremacy in Cape Town,” Adams said
“As the NCC we are committed to the land that was taken from us. We are committed to ending the DA in the WC by any means necessary. This country will never heal until it treats the Coloured community fairly,” he added.
