Cape Town – A group of critically injured South African soldiers has been successfully repatriated from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) for urgent medical care.
This follows a deadly clash in January between DRC army forces and M23 rebels, which resulted in the deaths of 14 South African soldiers. Their remains were returned to their families earlier in February.
“The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) confirms that the group of critically injured soldiers who needed medical attention have been successfully repatriated from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and will receive high level medical care,” SANDF spokesperson Siphiwe Dlamini said.
