Cape Town – Leader of the United Democratic Front (UDM) Bantu Holomisa has called for a swift investigation into allegations that National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula received cash bribes totaling R2.3 million from a South African National Defence Force (SANDF) contractor during her tenure as the Minister of Defence.
The claims surfaced in an affidavit submitted to the Investigative Directorate (ID) by the owner of Umkhombe Marine, a company involved in transporting SANDF cargo, according to Sunday Times.
Mapisa-Nqakula is accused of accepting bribes in connection with tenders worth R210 million awarded to the company in 2019.
Holomisa expressed frustration over delays in the investigation, claiming that it was completed last year but action has been stalled, calling on Mapisa-Nqakula to address the allegations.

“I can confidently say to the people of South Africa, the investigation was completed last year, and then we were told in December that this person will be arrested or appear in court.
“The police were stopped and [told] not to take any action until the SONA [State of the Nation Adress] has been finalised. The SONA has been finalised. What are they waiting for?,” Holomisa said.
