Cape Town – Former African National Congress (ANC) member and African Radical Economic Transformation Alliance (Areta) leader Carl Niehaus has announced his decision to join the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
Speaking during a media briefing on Thursday, Niehaus confirmed that Areta will not register to contest the 2024 general elections.
“We will join the EFF also in our capacity as individual members starting with me as I am standing here today,” The Citizen quoted him as saying.
Niehaus, who was expelled from the ANC in December 2022, had previously been dismissed and reinstated in September 2021.
Despite his expulsion, he resigned from the ANC and established the Radical Economic Transformation (RET) Movement, later renamed Areta.
Now, Niehaus is joining the EFF as an individual member and urged former President Jacob Zuma not to campaign for the ANC in the upcoming elections.
