Cape Town – After weeks of negotiations following May’s elections, President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to announce his new cabinet, formed under a Government of National Unity (GNU) with the ANC and other parties, reports said on Sunday.
The DA, initially seeking numerous ministerial and deputy ministerial positions, reportedly settled for six ministries, relinquishing control over key departments like Trade, Industry, and Competition.
Despite compromises, the DA anticipates significant influence, potentially appointing figures like John Steenhuisen and Helen Zille, amid ongoing discussions within their Federal Executive.
Criticism of the negotiations has been met with defence from Zille, emphasising the seriousness of portfolio decisions for national impact.
