Cape Town — Leader of Build One South Africa (BOSA), Mmusi Maimane, believes that his party is the only one fit enough to carry out the legacy and the dreams promised when South Africa became a democracy in 1994.
Maimane was speaking at BOSA’s manifesto launch on Sunday.
He decried the current state of the country and said that those who voted in the country’s first democratic elections in 1994 wanted to create a better life for their children.
He said that, while he didn’t want to diminish any achievements since 1994, many were suffering under the democratic government, EWN reported.
“That dream and that hope have fast been deferred for too many people, life is becoming hard. More than half of our citizens are living below the poverty line, that promise of freedom is no longer there, that dream is now a nightmare, and now many of us are standing here today saying that we feel the party that we entrusted in 1994 is no longer the party of Nelson Mandela,” the report quoted him as saying.
Maimane promised to create two million jobs over the next five years and to to bring the country’s load shedding crisis to an end.
He also promised to reform the country’s education, and to create a stable environment for new jobs.
