Cape Town — The leader of the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL), Collen Malatji, has called on more of the experienced leaders of the party to consider retirement.
Speaking at the launch of the Northern Cape Youth League Volunteers event in Kuruman. Malatji said, after the elections, should the ANC win, the youth league will demand a sizeable representation of youth leaders in Parliament and Provincial legislatures, SABC News reported.
Malatji thanked the likes of Pravin Gordhan and Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma for their decision to retire, and encouraged their peers to follow suit.
“They must call their friends and request them to follow suit because there are young people on the list and we still want them to go up, now they are closing the space for the youth, (and) can they follow suit? All the pensioners that have accepted must decline nomination and those that have been accused of corruption we don’t want them on our list.” he said.
In addition, he added that the ANC can’t associate themselves with dirty people, and it is time for the youth to take responsibility for their own future, saying it can no longer delegate the future of the country to pensioners, because the future belongs to the youth.
