Cape Town – ANC veteran Mavuso Msimang has reportedly decided to retract his resignation from the party, one week after stepping down in objection to what he deemed a “shameful” track record of governance.
According to Times Live, Msimang cited discussions with party leadership as the reason for his decision.
“Yes, it is correct, I have withdrawn the resignation,” the report quoted Msimang as saying.
He has relinquished his position as ANC veterans league deputy president and will now be an ordinary member of the party, the report said.
Msimang had initially resigned from the party after over 60 years.
In his three-page resignation letter, Msimang cited endemic corruption within the ANC, stating that it has had devastating consequences on the governance of the country and the lives of the poor.

“The litany of economic and social woes, crime, unemployment, destitution – associated with my beloved ANC is not only embarrassing but also defies enumeration.
“It is a matter of public record that for over a decade I have added my voice to many others who have consistently decried and disapproved of corruption and its harmful by-products of nepotism and incompetence.
“The response of the leadership to this constructive censure has, at best, been a shoulder shrug and a promise to do something about it.
“At worst those who seek change by raising their voices endure slurs or are met with downright hostility,” he wrote.
