Cape Town — ANC secretary-general, Fikile Mbalula, has said the ruling party is set to take legal action against a new political party that was named after it’s military wing, uMkhonto WeSziwe (MK).
There were fears that many ANC stalwarts would leave the party in favour of joining Zuma and his alleged new party. The party has already been registered with the Electoral Commission (IEC) and concerns were heightened when a poster of Zuma circulated on social media with no ANC logo.
However, Zuma was part of MK’s 62 year anniversary celebrations that took place on Saturday 16 December. Although he is set to announce his next political move soon, speculation is high that Zuma will shed light on Saturday on whether or not he forms part of the newly-registered MK party.
According to EWN, Mbalula said allowing the formation to run for elections with that name was a sheer disregard of the party’s history.
“UMkhonto weSizwe belongs to the ANC. If you want to form a party, you can go, but leave MK with us. We are going to challenge them,” Mbalula said.
Mbalula was speaking ahead of the 62nd MK anniversary where the ANC celebrated a “pivotal moment in South Africa’s history”
“As we commemorate this day, we pay homage to our fallen heroines and heroes, through our resolve for “decisive action to advance the people’s interests and renew our movement. Long live the undying and revolutionary spirit of MK!” ANC said.
