Cape Town – The ANC’s Luthuli House has reportedly instructed the Free State ANC to promptly take action against Mayor Xolani Tseletsele for verbally assaulting a resident over a Facebook post.
ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula condemned Tseletsele’s behaviour, citing it as a threat to the resident and a violation of the ANC constitution, The Citizen reported.
Mbalula called for the mayor’s immediate suspension.

“We know what arrogance has done to the brand and image of the ANC over the years. Gone are the days of asina valo [we fear nothing].
“The mayor will have to be suspended with immediate effect by the province. Furthermore, due to circumstances and urgency of the matter, the provincial secretary may convey the decision of suspension to comrade Tseletsele telephonically,” the report quoted Mbalula as saying.
Tseletsele, also the provincial chairperson of the ANC Youth League, will undergo disciplinary procedures, including scrutiny by the integrity commission.
On Sunday, the EFF has issued a statement, saying that the “incompetent mayor treats his mayoral duties like a art-time hobby…”
