Cape Town – President Cyril Ramaphosa is reportedly adamant that the ruling party will continue to govern without any coalition after next year’s national elections.
Speaking at the ANC national election strategy workshop on Saturday, Ramaphosa said the ANC would be campaigning for an outright victory and not a coalition in next year’s elections, reported EWN.
Ramaphosa said it was imperative that the party united behind one campaign idea, the report said.
“If we can muster how we carry our campaign forward, how we plaster the whole country from wall to wall with an ANC message and have really effective volunteers as of old in our campaigning method, this election is ours and victory is certain,” the report quoted Ramaphosa as saying.
Jacaranda FM reported that the ANC could drop below 50% of the vote during the 2024 general elections amid continued load shedding, unemployment and poverty.
However, Ramaphosa remained confident that the ANC will continue to govern without the help of any other political party, the report said.

In March, Business Day reported that raw data by the Social Research Foundation (SRF), a body of experts focusing on public policy issues and the promotion of democracy, showed the ANC’s electoral support at 45.9%.
“When the data is modelled for turnout, support for the ANC rises to between 52% and 53% and that for the DA to between 24% and 25%. This is on par with the figures recorded in 2022,
“Our interpretation of the data is that ANC support is stable at just over 50%, that [support] for the DA is stable at just under 25%, [and support] for the EFF is down sharply [at 6%]….” the report quoted SRF as saying.
The report said the party which was besieged by governance, administrative and financial challenges had been warned it risked losing the 2024 elections if it did not focus on what mattered the most – service delivery.
